In Jena, do you guys still have separate water fountains for blacks or is it just separate trees. You know this really is not making any since to me how in the year 2007 there is still racisim like that. I know that it still exist but to be so harsh to the young black kids, who are really trying to do something with their lives.

rfgdfdadf should read things a little more carefully.
its one thing for someone to drive like an idiot, its another to
swing a bat at them. if the police got these different groups together who all had the same assault perpetrated upon them,
then i think this goes a little farther than poor driving skill.
I will agree with you about one thing though….europeans are terrible drivers.

In response to Andrew, that is the biggest bu*****t you’re talking. i live in Europe, how may boy racers you see driving like a mad man, it doesn’t matter wether black or white every race have their ppl who drive like idiots.
Anyways Reed Walters will definately get whats coming to him. Justice shall prevail.

It is certainly not my perception that “all hate crimes are perpetrated by whites.” The story you tell is horrible and I have witnessed something in reverse in South Central LA where white cops in a patrol car almost ran over an elderly black woman, with a cane trying to cross the street. For God’s sake man, write a letter to the Washington Post. By the way, Sharpton and his National Action Network are not omnipotent. Do they know about this situation? Call/write to them an let them know about it if you want their support. I had never heard about this. Get the word out!
Still, all of that is separate from the travesty in Jena.

In my neighborhood it is very common for the older women to take daily walks in pairs. Its a great way for them to get exercise and catch up on local gossip. My next door neighbor is a 70 something immigrant from Germany. She is a patriotic american and all around good neighbor. Last week 3 black guys in a mercedes in broad daylight forced her and her walking partner on their backsides as they jumped out of the way to avoid being hit. these jerks were driving thru the neighborhood hanging out the window swinging a baseball bat at the white folks.
Turns out that they were the 4th group to be swung at that week. What they saw of the license plate was enough to piece together with the other victems and i.d. the perpertrators.
the owners of the MERCEDES live in the mpdu sec. of my neighborhood that is now required by law. the police said that since no one was actually hit by the bat they couldnt press charges.(what ever happened to vehicular asault?) Why isnt this a hate crime?
If this was a group of white guys, Al, Jessie, The Black panthers, N.O.I. southern poverty law center,and the Grambling U. marching band would be protesting in the streets of my neighborhood.
Yes,sadly enough blatant racicism does exist.
What happened in Jena was very wrong, but contrary to the perspective and agenda of the alphabet media not all hate driven crimes are perpetrated by Whites.
The sooner we accept that, the sooner the rest of us
can get along and get on with our lives

So many of us would like to believe that blatant racism no longer exists, but the situation in Jena disturbingly proves otherwise. Will we ever be able to live in racial harmony, celebrating the gifts that each of us brings to others? I had not heard about this case, but thanks for printing it.
