Lei is famous for carving the statues of Mao. Are we to besmirch the memory of Dr. King by forever linking him with the same sculptor who celebrates a mass murderer?
Would anyone hire a sculptor famous for sculpting Hitler to sculpt a statue of Anne Frank?
The Foundation justified it by quoting what Dr. King said as transcending race, tribe and nations. However, the full quote of Dr. King speech is, "This call for a worldwide fellowship that lifts neighborly concern beyond one's tribe, race, class and nation is, in realty, a call for an all-embracing and unconditional love. When I speak of love, I am not speaking of some sentimental and weak response which is little more than emotional bosh. I am speaking of that force which all the great religions have seen as the supreme unifying principle of life. Love is somehow the key that unlocks the door, which leads to ultimate reality."
Dr. King talked about "all embracing love". Mao promoted class hatred.
Dr. King talked about "great religions". Mao called religion the opium of the people. Mao's legacy is a regime that continues to persecution Christians, Tibetans, Falun Gong and others.
Dr. King talked about "the key that unlocks the door". The current regime in China talks about total locking the door of their people by putting journalists in jail as well as internet bloggers.

This story heartbreaking! How could the King Foundation pimp so great a hero to so many???? This is a no-brainer. A statue of Dr. King should be created by an American artist, preferably black, and the stone carved from stone formed in America. This is outrageous to say the least!!!!
