Contributor Carole McDonnell’s short stories and essays appear online and in print, in speculative fiction, ethnic, and Christian publications. She lives in New York with her husband, two sons, and their pets. Wind Follower, published by Juno Books, is Carole’s first novel. Her voice adds plenty to our discussion, so I welcome Carole and her column Faith in Color to Allaboutrace.com.

When I asked my friend Tyler Lewis if I could crosspost his illuminating “My Favorite Music of 2007″ he said, “Sure.” When I asked him for a short bio, this is what he suggested: ‘Tyler is a writer and amateur cultural critic who loves music perhaps too much. He’s been writing online for fun and semi-professionally since 2001 and enjoys equal amounts of respect and hateration.’ Hateration in a sentence? Cool. What Tyler’s bio doesn’t tell you is that he is wicked smart and funny, too. This is his …

And a happy holiday season to all who celebrate in any kind of positive way. May the goodwill expressed at this time of year reach each and every one of you.
And as you sit down to your meal tonight, and every night for that matter, please take a moment to send a prayer or positive energy to all of the people who helped make that plate of food available to you.
May there be peace and justice on Earth.

Once again I will be mixing it up with two other bloggers on NPR’s “News and Notes” program. On December 26th, guest host Tony Cox will put us through our paces discussing Al Sharpton’s relevance as “black political leader,” the Kwanzaa holiday and the Enough is Enough campaign. Can positive media change the way Black people are perceived?
On deck as well will be Desmond Burton of Afronerd and Baratunde Thurston of Jack and Jill Politics.

Yes, according to the latest Zogby poll:
UTICA, New York – Illinois Sen. Barack Obama would defeat all five of the top Republicans in prospective general election contests, performing better than either of his two top rivals, a new Zogby telephone poll shows.
His margins of advantage range from a 4 percent edge over Arizona Sen. John McCain and a 5 percent edge over Arkansas’ Mike Huckabee to an 18 percentage point lead over Mitt Romney of Massachusetts, the survey shows. Against New York’s Rudy Giuliani he leads by 9%, and …

Plea bargaining is the state’s most insidious power chip for filling the belly of the prison industrial complex. It embodies the essential difference between talking to the police and snitching – another dynamic that characterizes the criminal justice system as it stands now. The state holds liberty above a potential prisoner’s head because every person values his freedom – plea bargaining allows the person to state his price for standing as close to seeing the outside world as possible. Through the …

To Whom it May Concern,
Last january, in a moment of tequila induced mayhem, the naughty elves trashed a bar in St. Thomas. A probation officer assigned to one of these little trolls recently disclosed to government officials that I had been running an “International Airport.” I was immediately served with innumerable fines, environmental impact studies, licensing fees and what not. They set up a security screening checkpoint and brought in a slew of anti terrorist …

Mitt Romney was ready for it, THE question. For months now, those who chronicle politics have been clamoring for IT to be asked.
Until 1978, the so-called Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was an officially racist organization. Mitt Romney was an adult in 1978. We need to know how he justified this to himself, and we need to hear his self-criticism, if he should chance to have one.
The Book of Mormon, when it is not “chloroform in print” as Mark Twain unkindly phrased it, is full of …
