Democratic Smackdown in South Carolina

By Carmen D. on Tuesday, January 22nd, 2008, 8:15 am Comments

**UPDATED LINK** - Hillary Clinton says “Obama was looking for a fight.”

My trainer and I had a good laugh yesterday afternoon. He mentioned that he was excited about Monday night television. I said, “Me, too!” He then said, “Yeah. ‘American Gladiators’is on.” I chuckled back, “Well, I meant the Democratic debates. But there may not be too much difference.”

Who knew?

I tell you, I watched both. And despite the extreme muscle mass and snarling on display during “American Gladiators,” there was far more authentic aggression displayed by Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton.

And it’s about time.

After the initial shock of seeing these two actually bust out past staff crafted point/counterpoint, I felt refreshed and invigorated about participating in our electoral process. It was nice to see both Obama and Clinton as fully human. And frankly, with each of them slinging insults based on cherry picked facts from the others past, I learned some new information about each of them – markedly unflattering. Is this helpful in making a voting decision? Yes, I think so.

But another moment that excited me was when Barack Obama actually talked about race. He actually talked about the lack of equal justice for Black people and expressed the sentiment that addressing these issues of disparity should/must be as important for White people if we as a nation are to enjoy any real unity. When he talked about equal justice, I felt Obama was taking words out of my mouth.

I agree. I think ultimately the contest will be between the Clintons and McCain, and McCain will be the victor! We Americans are the losers be it McCain or Giuliani. McCain may be a hothead, but he may have more integrity than the two from New York! A little hope here. The Republicans are salivating that Clinton is nominated. They will kick her a##. They are afraid of Obama because they don't quite know to attack him. America is in serious trouble as a country and world leader. I suppose the country will get what it deserves in the end!
  • Hi ChiChi! The Clintons are gutter fighters and smart ones. Where can they beat Obama...in the gutter so that is where they have dragged him. He had no choice but to swing back because he was beginning to look spineless in the face of the barrage of attacks. Still, I believe Clinton is eroding her chances of winning in the national election. At this point, I believe Giuliani or McCain could beat her. What a waste.

Sorry to say that Obama is living under a rock if he thinks for one minute the Clintons aren't cynics and cunning bottom fighters. As a small example of their cynicism, what would you call asking Jessie Jackson to the White House for counseling after Billie Boy was caught with his pants down in the Oval office with Monica under the desk when Jessie had just be accused of having had an affair with a staffer who provided him with an out-of-wedlock child? Now that's cynicism, Obama!
