Meanwhile, over at AOL Black Voices

By Carmen D. on Thursday, June 26th, 2008, 8:37 am Comments

I’ve been posting like a mad woman over at the ‘day job.’ I am still figuring how to juggle my ideas, but I thought I’d share some of what I’ve been writing about over there. I’d love to hear your thoughts…here or there.

Are menthols racist? And why do so many black folks (75% of black smokers) smoke them??

Mass murder in Zimbabwe. We don’t care. Sadly, notice there are only 2 comments. We really don’t care.

Proud black men promote R. Kelly boycott. I felt so proud of the petition sponsors and so hopeless after reading so many comments defending R. Kelly and calling his detractors “haters” or worse.

Black Power, Afro-Latin Style. Finally, Central and South Americans are taking pride in their African heritage and confronting longstanding racism. It’s like the 60’s here without the riots and fire hoses.

Mauricia Grant Hits NASCAR With $225M Lawsuit. I’ve been working on a post for AAR entitled “To Sue or not to Sue” I’ll work on getting that done. But in the meantime, you can weigh in over at BlackSpin.

Re Nascar. It would seem that Mauricia Grant has an open and shut case given our stereotypes of southern white men. However, since the Duke (non)rape case, I've learned to wait until the courts adjudicate the facts...if it ever gets that far.

ChiChi, not at all, but at some point Africa has to stand on its own. Do we really help the continent by continually treating it as a disabled child?
  • Chi Chi
    pteranodon,

Did you forget that it was the British,Germans, Dutch, French and other Europeans whose corrupt colonization of Africa destroyed it in the first place?

If you want to lose thousands of lives and billions (trillions?) of dollars, just get involved trying to straighten out any country that used to be part of the British Empire. Should take about 100 years. (Didn't work so well for the British, either).

Is is possible that Africa needs to be at the forefront of intervening in Africa? Is it really the job of nasty, evil-hearted, white-devil European ice people to clean up Africa's messes?
  • Hi Sache!! Welcome to the conversation. Thank you for your kind compliments.

Please tell me more about what kinds of posts you would like to see. I am looking for feedback.

Please comment freely on what you read. Love it OR hate it! That's what makes a dynamic community.

    Peace
    PS I love your handle!
  • Dear Carmen,

I haven't been on your blog for even 10 minutes and I love it already. I love the fact that you touch on news stories that have been virtually ignored in the news media that affect African Americans worldwide, especially the stories that involve Africa. I will be definitely reading your blog everyday from now on. This is a blog i've been looking for because these are issues I care about.

we have not attacked in africa yet. americans, who tend to be fat lazy ignorant nose pickers never put down the play station long enough to learn squat about geography unless there is aviation gun camera footage involved... we attack, we learn where zimbabwe is on a map, and then we will start to care about the people of this, the nation with perhaps the coolest name above all others!
  • Dear ChiChi, thank you for your comment. Your support means a lot to me. This is a time for acceleration, I just feel it. I have a lot of things cookin' on the business side, too.

It's going to be a great fall. I look forward to sharing my next venture with everyone here soon.

Believe me, I smell the ocean always and stay very close to God. That's where I am finding my energy.

    Peace and blessings to you.
