Should Chicago students boycott the first day of school?
It’s a pretty radical proposition to protest the underfunding of inner city schools. But is it a necessary step in the fight for parity?

August 13th, 2008 at 10:09 am -Hey Rawdawgbuffalo, welcome to the conversation. I agree with you, but I understand what Meeks is trying to accomplish. I just don’t believe that most parents of these kids are going to bus it out to New Trier to execute the most compelling aspect of this plan.

Keeping kids further behind in school by not having them show up is not the solution!!
How many are functionally-illiterate when they get to high school?? Too many.

August 14th, 2008 at 5:21 am -The lack of concensus on the school funding disparities, coupled with the absence of long range educational planning in the general Black community make us easier pickings for the descendants of slavemasters to bank on yet another generation for non Whites to prey and feed upon. Take charge of your childrens’ education, Black America! Ultimately, OUR failure to read at home with our children and selling their future out to entertainment TV is on our hands. White America is handling their business, as usual. If your Child doesn’t have a library card, get one.
