Despicable Acts: Labelling Obama the Anti -Christ

It’s been said that the way to make sure a meme is widely adopted is to repeat it over and over and over again. During the primary battle between Obama and Clinton, a nasty little internet email gained enough traction to spill over into mainstream discussion.

That email purportedly "proved" that Barack Obama is the anti-Christ. Now it’s hard to believe that in the 21st century, a stupid, fact lacking, anonymously spread internet rumor would impact a person’s opinion of a presidential candidate - but it has.

In fact the Obama as anti-Christ foolishness has gathered so much steam that it looks like none other than the McCain campaign has picked up the idea and is running with it. And now the likes of CNN and ‘Time’ are actually addressing this nonsense. …

Here’s the video:

And lest you think this is some cockamamie accusation coming from the left wing of the political spectrum, it was the folks over at Christian Newswire who first addressed the problem:

John McCain’s campaign ad "The One" has generated a lot of buzz regarding the "Left Behind Series." Political commentators are comparing McCain’s portrayal of competitor Barack Obama with the blockbuster apocalyptic series’ depiction of the antichrist. But even the series authors Tim LaHaye and Jerry B. Jenkins don’t think Obama is the antichrist. What may have been created as a farce has generated a firestorm of controversy on the internet.

LaHaye and Jenkins take a literal interpretation of prophecies found in the Book of Revelation. They believe the antichrist will surface on the world stage at some point, but neither see Obama in that role. "I’ve gotten a lot of questions the last few weeks asking if Obama is the antichrist," says novelist Jenkins. "I tell everyone that I don’t think the antichrist will come out of politics, especially American politics."

Is that clear enough? Once and for all Barack Obama is NOT THE anti-Christ. Whew. I’m glad we cleared that up. Now please go and tell CNN and Time what you already now know.

Well, they knew they couldn’t get away with calling him “that uppity N-word” so this is the next best thing.

Hey Sarah, welcome to the conversation. I hear you. But you know, my main beef is not with McCain or Obama detractors simply calling him the anti-Christ it’s that so many people actually believe it!!!

  3. Chi Chi Says:

They only believe that b..l s..t because he’s a brilliant black man who has made it to a point in this country that’s never been seen before in the country’s history. How else could he have done so well if the devil weren’t helping him? God would never let a black man make it to the top of one of the most powerful countries in the world, would He? This is just not possible. Oh my, what ignorant savages this country breeds!

    First-timer here–I love your blog!

Its amazing how blind most white people are to the fact that racism is being used by the white supremacist system to elect people who will keep the working class folks of all races in their places so that the richest of the rich will stay rich.

In an article in The Economist (http://www.economist.com/world/unitedstates/displaystory.cfm?story_id=11670719)
there’s a quote from a guy who theorizes that “the white working class has been hoodwinked. It is in their economic interest to vote Democratic, but they don’t because those crafty Republicans have got them all worked up about silly moral and cultural issues such as abortion, guns and gay marriage.”

IMHO, the anti-Christ bull*#*! and the anti-American, unpatriotic crap are both examples of this type of manipulation at work. People are extra vulnerable to it with Obama because of the racism rampant in our country; folks may not want to admit that they don’t like him because he’s black, but if he’s the anti-Christ, well that’s different!

Hey AprildelFuego, welcome to the conversation and I love your handle! Your observation is EXACTLY why of all the speeches Dr. King gave, my favorite is ‘The Drum Major Instinct’ He recounts how he suggested to his white jailers that they were oppressed too and how they should be marching with him.

    Check it out:

    Glad to have you here.

Thanks for the refresher on the The Drum Major Instinct speech. I used to have a cassette tape of Dr. King’s speeches that I listened to a lot…guess I need to update that with a CD or mp3!

This quote in particular captures what I was referring to:
“Now that’s a fact. That the poor white has been put into this position, where through blindness and prejudice, (Make it plain) he is forced to support his oppressors. And the only thing he has going for him is the false feeling that he’s superior because his skin is white—and can’t hardly eat and make his ends meet week in and week out.”

How do we get white America to wake up to this? That’s my question and my quest.

How do we get white America to wake up to this? That’s my question and my quest. Ignorance is bliss, white people have rapped themselves in this bliss since the begining of this evil nation. The only thing a white person hates more than having a penny is a negroe with a nickel,& your boy barak has a dollar!
