Barack Obama, John McCain, Politics »
Can you imagine the reaction if Barack Obama had said "I have to suspend my campaign because the economy is in a complete mess, although less than 10 days ago I did promise the American public that the "fundamentals" of our economy were strong. And I can’t debate right now and my Vice Presidential pick can’t debate right now either. Must. Focus." Just imagine the unanimous criticism if Obama made a move like this. Why do you think that would be?
And the Democratic party leadership has been critical:
For what it’s …

For the next couple of weeks, posts may be coming a little slower than usual because I am in a push to get a whole host of things accomplished offline. Volunteering, developing my business, tending to home, taking care of my body and connecting with loved ones, are all activities keeping me especially busy right now.
I’ve also found myself disconnecting more and more from the negativity swirling around. I am even more conscious that the pundits don’t define my reality. I don’t have to accept that “it’s all going to …
Barack Obama, Check these out, Fighting Racism, Waking Up »
In what will come as small surprise to anyone reading the comment threads on anti-racist sites or wondering why Barack Obama is having so much trouble with white, working class Democratic voters, a breakthrough Associated Press-Yahoo study says that "one-third of white Democrats harbor negative views toward blacks-many calling them "lazy," "violent" or responsible for their own troubles."
And this is why it matters right now:
"The poll, conducted with Stanford University, suggests that the percentage of voters who may turn away from Obama because of his race could easily be larger …

My fellow Afrospear blogger, activist D. Yobachi Boswell, has started a chain I want to continue over here. In his post “A little help can go a long way”, he puts it like this:
I’ve been telling you the last couple of weeks about the absolute devastation in Haiti from being hit by 4 tropical storms and Hurricanes with in less than three weeks. If you missed that, you can read here and here as well.
This morning I made a donation to Food For The Poor, directed to Haitian relief. It …

In my biased opinion this ‘News and Notes’ segment is well worth listening to. I was on with Kevin Bass, former Superior Court judge, entrepreneur and active Republican supporting Barack Obama; and Marc Lamont Hill, Temple University professor, speaker and Fox contributor.
Our first topic: Does Sarah Pallin care about diversity? Then we moved on to discussing how affirmative action should be applied to college admissions today. Our conversation was so high spirited, we only got to touch on the topic of felons and voting rights.
Please have a listen and …

It’s official. I am over my “ooh, don’t look at me” jitters. Thank you for your support.
I shot my video. Spent 2 and-a-half hours figuring out how to use Windows Movie Maker software and then another hour editing my 1 minute and 50 second piece.
And just as I prepared to save it “to the web” -
MY COMPUTER CRASHED!!
I swear this to be true. It was like a bad “Candid Camera” skit. All of the original video is there, it’s just that it has to be edited all over again. …

So, I’ve got my camera and know how to work it. I’ve written my script.
What’s come up for me in this Vlog experiment, is my own anxiety about putting my “self”, my “face” out there. I love having authority and having some sense of control. (I know it’s an illusion so that’s why I used the word ’sense’ in relation to control.) I like moving things along from behind the scenes; and keyboards. I’ve been practically hyperventilating pondering the thought of my punim posted on YouTube.
But you know what?
It’s …

As I listened to Barack Obama’s acceptance speech at the Democratic National Convention, this is the line that most resonated with me:
You make a big election about small things.
It was such a clear and true observation. It rings in my head still. I’ve found my heart screaming at the so called “journalists” lately. Watching as they follow the shiny object while cowed into some kind of obsequious quest to be liked by all parties, just blows my mind sometimes. Where is Edward R. Murrow’s ghost when you need it to …

Senator John McCain accepted his party’s nomination with an unusually personal speech that chronicled his harrowing time as a POW and featured the word "change" more than ten times. Has McCain abandoned his ‘Straight Talk Express’ to grab onto the caboose of the ‘Change’ train?
I fight to restore the pride and principles of our party. We were elected to change Washington, and we let Washington change us.
We lost the trust of the American people when some Republicans gave in to the temptations of corruption. We lost their trust when …

"Red Meat" is a term political insiders use to describe a speech intended primarily to fire up a party’s already committed supporters. Republican Vice-Presidential nominee, Sarah Palin, served up the "red meat" bloody and in big slabs during her acceptance speech at the Republican National Convention. She started off straightforward enough:
I accept the call to help our nominee for president to serve and defend America.
I accept the challenge of a tough fight in this election… against confident opponents … at a crucial hour for our country.
And I accept the …
