NPR News and Notes With Farai Chideya

Today I’ll mix it up with two other bloggers on NPR’s ‘News and Notes’ program. I fully expect host Farai Chideya to put us through our paces discussing a broad range of topics. I’ve not always posted my appearances on the show, but as you may know, the show is ending in a few months and I hope to do my part to send it off with a bang. I will truly miss listening to and being a guest on ‘News and Notes’

I am grateful that producer Devin Robins found ‘All About Race’ and first invited me on the show last summer. And I am also grateful that Farai Chideya and the entire ‘News and Notes’ team has been completely supportive and stepped out to create such an invigorating opportunity for bloggers to have their voices heard.

So on today’s show, I’ll be with Casey Lartigue of ‘The Casey Lartigue Show’ and with Jay Anderson who writes Average Bro.

We’ll kick off the segment by discussing Roland Burris’ bold play to grab the Senate seat left vacant by Barack Obama. Other topics on deck include:

Politics overload. Obama hasn’t even been sworn in yet and by some reports Americans are turning away from political news in droves. What gives?

The Ebony Experiment. One family sets out to solely support black businesses for one year.

I’m a little hoarse, but as you know, I always have a lot to say. If you can’t tune in, I will post the audio link here once it’s available.

Here are some of my past appearances on ‘News and Notes’ in case you would like to check them out:

11/26/08 Roundtable: Bob Jones Apologies For Racist Policies

11/4/08 Decision 2008: Reporting From The Precincts (Videoblog) – Farai Chideya speaks with blogger Carmen Dixon and NPR producer Roy Hurst, for the latest, on-the-ground reporting from voting precincts.

10/22/08 Roundtable: Is Palin’s Media Treatment Sexist?

9/18/08 On video: Roundtable: Palin’s Diversity Report Card

8/13/08 Roundtable: White Supremacists Voting For Obama?

You can find other appearances here.

In advance, thank you for listening.

This horrific tradegy just helps prove that electing a black president is far, far, far from enough... It seems that young black men are being killed with impunity, incarcerated in Federal prisons without trial on trumped up "conspiracy" charges; labeled as troublesome under school systems at the early school levels of grade 2/3, leading to too many ultimately dropping or being kicked out of school; subsequently labeled as unhirable because of lack of education, thereby leading to no jobs other than selling drugs to participate in the televised dream of the land of plenty and everyone should have some; and on and on and on and on....

Let's pray for the soul of the young man so brutally murdered by those sworn to "protect and defend" and for his family and friends. In fact, let's pray for us all. We obviously need it.
