All About Race Back for Good

Since AAR launched in March 2007, a whole lot has changed about the way we discuss racial issues in America. Two and a half years ago, the notion of a black president was most realistically relegated to Hollywood imaginings and the white knuckle reality of “24”.

But here we are. And after so much voice, heart and soul spent here in support of electing President Barack Obama, and the glorious too short afterglow of the 2008 election, racial talk is now razor sharp. I’m glad for it because I believe we’re cutting open some of the bilious sores that have too long festered under gauzy faux politeness and eggshell walkin’.

And so, after a serious walkabout, I’m back and re-committed to creating a space where people of all ideologies speak honestly and thoughtfully. I re-enter this arena with an even firmer commitment to confront racism and bigotry and explore the myriad ways race, culture and class impact how we move through the world.

So if you’re looking to hash out ideas in a community committed to doing the hard work and having the hard conversations, in hopes of finding even a little common ground, well this is the place for you. Welcome.

And to those of you who’ve made up the AAR community for these many months, I’ve missed you and I hope you’ll stay. We’ve got work to do.

    FOR GOOD? WHERE HAS IT GONE. ONLY THE YOUNG AMERICANS WITH BRAINS VOTED FOR OBAMA AND THINKING OF CHANGEING THIS SAD COUNTRY TO MAKE IT THEIR OWN.THE CRONIES ARE NOT ALL DEAD YET SO MAYBE IN THE NEXT CENTURY OR WITH OUR RACISM THE MIDDLE EAST WILL WIPE US CLEAR OFF THE MAP WHILE WE FOCUS ON COLOR OOOOOH THAT'S NOT SO BAD HUH? ALL YOU FEARLESS AMERICANS,ONLY THAT THE BLACK MAN HAS BEEN REVEILLED AS SMART AS OTHER RACES .IT TOOK 12 YEARS TO GET THIS MESS GOING AND I MEAN ALL THE ISSUES ALL OF A SUDDEN WE HAVE A DUMB BLACK THAT CAN"T FIX THESE PROBLEMS IN ONE YEAR SHAME SHAME ON YOU OBAMA,I WONDER HOW THE RATINGS WOULD BE IF HILLARY HAD WON WITH NOTHING BEING ACCOMPLISHED,ANYWAY LET"S GET IT ON DO WE NEED TO START A CIVIL WAR ON AMERICAS BLACKS WHILE THE OTHER NATIONS ARE HERE EATING UP ALL THE PROSPERITY,WE AS A NATION DON'T OWN NOTHING ANYMORE FOR YEARS NOT JUST A YEAR AGO LOOK AROUND YOU BLACKS AND WHITES ARE AT THE END OF THE HIGH STANDARDS,WHY BECAUSE WE HAVE NOTHING ELSE TO FOCUS ON BUT WHAT THE BLACK MAN IS DOING WHILE EVERYONE ELSE IS MAKING A KILLING OFF OUR BACKS .WHY DO YOU THINK WE TALK TO INDIA AND THIRD WORLD COUNTRIES ABOUT OUR ACCTS.WHEN MAKING A CALL?.SO THEIR YOU HAVE IT ,IT JUST DOESN'T MATTER ANYMORE I HAVE FOUR DAUGHTERS WITH DEGREES AND SOME WITH MASTERS AND THREE GRANDCHILDREN IN COLLEGE 1,2,3,YEARS. THE HOPE IS LEAVING THEIR HEARTS BECAUSE THEY WATCH HOW AMERICA OPERATES SO MAYBE THE PEACE WILL RESOLVE WHEN THESE YOUNG AND SNMART GRADS TAKE THEIR KNOWLEDGE TO OTHER COUNTRIES THINGS WILL BE NONE VOID IN THIS COUNTRY NO ONE TO BE THE UNDER DOG,WOW WHAT A CONCEPT!!!! POLITICS IS WORSE THAN EVER THIS PRESIDENT CAN'T TAKE A LEAK WITHOUT IT BEING PUBLICLY CAUSE A WEEKS WORTH OF NEWS IN THE MEANTIME THESE INFRACTIONS OF LAWS ARE BEING BROKEN AND NOT KNOWN FOR MONTHS!! DAVE,JAY,AND RUSH LET'S MAKE IT HAPPEN YOU CAN DO THE DAMAGE TO THIS COUNTRY BEING POLITICALY CORRECT YOUR ATTACKS HOLDS THE KEY.

    So glad, Carmen D, to have you back. Sure have missed your posts on AAR. Black Voices is good, but there's something about the layout that puts a distance between you and me. With AAR, I feel like we're having a real conversation. There's so much more of you here.

    I know this gets really difficult for you, but again, sure am glad to have you back!

  • I dunno...should I feel surprised at that? Sadly, I do not. I advocated kicking his ass to the curb a long time ago.
