Blogging Hurts

By Carmen D. on Thursday, December 17th, 2009, 10:27 am Comments

Ain’t it annoying that sometimes what we love the most causes us the most discomfort?

So two of the things I love the most are blogging and lifting really heavy weights in the gym. *sigh*

Apparently, this combination has caused deep tendinitis in my right wrist and tennis elbow on my right arm. My doctor calls it “right de quervains tenosynovitis” – such a pretty name for pain.

So, I’m in a arm/wrist/thumb brace full-time for the next 7 days and overnight and while on the computer after that.

Please know that I am NOT complaining AT ALL. I just wanted to keep you informed. This is a temporary disturbance in my life and I am extremely aware of how lucky I am to have good medical care.

But if I am a little slow jumping into comments and freshening up the posts, please bear with me.

Happy Freakin’ Holidays!

  • I know that pain - I hope you're feeling better! It drove me crazy to slow down, but my wife says I look at the screen too long as it is! ;-)
  • Carmen D, happy New Year! Wow... and I thought I was the only blogger having this issue. I was told by my doctor to stop blogging so much, rest and place both hands in that contraption we both are now wearing.

I had to stop blogging for at least 6 months. one of you readers called blogging computerized crack. He was on point LOL...

I now use blogtalkradio as my vehicle of opinion. I hope the doctor does not place anything on my mouth,

    Feel better...

Sure hope you're doing high fives real soon! :-)
  • @DancingintheDark At least I can still do a socialist fist bump...albeit gingerly. ;)
  • Ugh. I know how this is, tho not as bad as yours. I must be careful or it will get there. Sometimes I go so long and my right arm becomes unusable at computer. Be well.
  • @nezua Yes my friend let my journey serve as a cautionary tale. When I felt the first twinges I just pushed through, that proved to be an unwise choice. Thanks for your support.
  • Carmen I hope you get to feeling better. I thought I had a similar thing happening a few weeks ago. Take care of yourself.
  • @Shawn Thanks man! As I just said to Nez, take it seriously if you feel steady twinges. Rest and ice as much as possible.

Carmen, be careful sleeping. if you sleep on your side with your hands under your head you put a lot of torque/ pressure on your joints that can be a cause of tendonitits and tennis elbow. I have had my dealings with these issues and many times the cause of the problem is not what it seems.
