People.

There’s trouble in our ‘hood.

Our neighbors are bleeding.

Our neighbors need our help.

Please do whatever you can.

Here’s what you can do:

Salvation ArmyHaiti Earthquake Relief

American Red CrossHaiti Earthquake – Red Cross Sends Aid and is seeking volunteers to go. Can you do it?

Via blackperspective.net:

Yobachi Boswell writes: “Food For The Poor is the organization I donated through in 2008, and I was happy with them.” At Yobachi’s urging I, too, donated to Food for the Poor in 2008 and the follow-up was very good.

Yele Haiti is Wyclef Jean’s organization. It’s website has been overwhelmed, and has been down all morning.

You can text “yele” to 501501 to donate $5 to the Yele Haiti earthquake fund to start helping with quake relief. You can donate up to 6 times ($30). It’ll just be charged to your next phone bill.

Pan America Relief

You can check out charities and how they spend donations at Charity Navigator

Huffington Post has a great list of Haiti earthquake relief organizations both large and small.

Haiti has always had a special place in my heart, since it the sight of the most successful slave rebellion in history. As person of Caribbean heritage I know that Haitians are some of the most resilient people in the world. The have survived domestic and international strife, natural disasters and grinding poverty. I am a broke-as* college student but I will try to do what I can do. I beg the readers of this blog to do the same. Luckily President Obama knows how to respond to humanitarian crisis unlike Bush.
