I think former Vice-Presidential nominee Geraldine Ferraro must have lost her mind. Recently, I’ve been asked both directly and in roundabout ways, “When do we get to press the racial reset button?” The people who’ve asked this question seem to feel tired of dealing with racial issues and in particular are frustrated by the level of “black anger” they encounter. Those who ask this question want to move on to the point where race is a non-issue. They want to embrace the level playing field so many of us have imagined.

When you talk about race, there are times when you just want to pull your hair out because you want everybody to see what you see. You believe if everybody could just see what you see, then everybody could agree on the problems and then maybe even agree on ways to solve these problems. A case in point: Affirmative Action. Discussions of Affirmative Action tend to boil up into one of those confrontational, philosophical stews that spill over the sides, scalding every one arguing around the cauldron.
