Ain’t it annoying that sometimes what we love the most causes us the most discomfort?
So two of the things I love the most are blogging and lifting really heavy weights in the gym. *sigh*
Apparently, this combination has caused deep tendinitis in my right wrist and tennis elbow on my right arm. My doctor calls it “right de quervains tenosynovitis” – such a pretty name for pain.
So, I’m in a arm/wrist/thumb brace full-time for the next 7 days and overnight and while on the computer after that.
Please know that …

I have been bugging Andrew Padula to write the post that follows since he told me about his disturbing encounter on the DC metro last year. He was extremely hesitant to do so, but finally put it together in the wake of the Chicago beating-murder of the young honor roll student that was captured on cell phone video.
As the victim of violent bullies as a child, when I lived in New York I dreaded being on the subway at the time schools let out because of the overt aggression …

I’ve been sidelined by a nasty flare-up in a year old neck injury. It’s triggered extreme pain in my right hand, wrist and forearm. The good news is that I am waiting for the Celebrex to kick in and I’ve purchased a trackball mouse which should mean I’m back at the keyboard this afternoon (PST).
Thanks for your patience.
PS What’s up with Harry Reid? We’ll talk about it.

Many of you are kind enough to shoot me emails when you come across interesting stories I should see. I’m not always able to post about them, but I always read them. So I figured, everyone should have access to your suggestions. So, from time to time, I’ll post them here. Check out the first batch:
From big thinker with a wide world view, long time reader and friend JP:
Gold and Blood at Record Highs, from Wall Street to the Congo (11/3) Excerpt:

Starting today, All About Race will feature three new posts daily, with the first one appearing at 8:30am PST/11:30am EST.
Also, I hope you’ll watch for ‘Open Thread’ posts and jump in to share your opinion. Nothing’s sadder to me than an open thread with no comments. I’ll do more of them if you’ll comment more. And if you have ideas for open threads, please feel free to shoot them my way. That would be great.
Please tell your friends about All About Race and the conversations we have here. I hope …

Since AAR launched in March 2007, a whole lot has changed about the way we discuss racial issues in America. Two and a half years ago, the notion of a black president was most realistically relegated to Hollywood imaginings and the white knuckle reality of ā24ā.
But here we are. And after so much voice, heart and soul spent here in support of electing President Barack Obama, and the glorious too short afterglow of the 2008 election, racial talk is now razor sharp. Iām glad for it because I believe …

Good morning all! Just got back from Chicago and the Blogging While Brown conference. Rushing out to take my car in for repairs and after that all writing all day.
More this afternoon.
How was YOUR weekend? And a special shout out to fathers who love and nurture their children…of all ages.

I realize that All About Race posting has been super light for the past little while. I am in the process of putting together my next public service initiative. As some of you may recall, I’ve spent the past few years devoting much of my time to creating Prosper Academy – a public, college preparatory boarding school for at risk, underserved and/or foster youth. Well sadly, with the abysmal state of California’s budget, and even the jumbo philanthropic organizations all but stopping new grants, that path has ended for now. …

I apologize for the slow posting this week. I’m working up a couple of goodies, including some more insight on that CBS poll that talked about blacks and whites feeling better about race relations. In our comments section, reader N-2-Me-I-C pointed out some information that contrasts the studies findings. I am taking a harder look at what’s happening around us, too.
In the meantime, I wrote a little piece (pun intended) about the Oprah KFC coupon mess a couple days ago. Please click on over and have a look:

I am so excited to talk with you about the next chapter for All About Race. I don’t know about you, but sometimes I get frustrated that those of us in our AAR community can’t just talk about some of the headlines or some of the stuff that happens in the comment section or just how race is impacting our daily lives. I think it’s a dimension missing from our online experience.
So I’ve taken the next step to address that. I’m launching ‘All About Race on …

As you can see, I am taking the new theme Nezua has customized for us on a test drive. We’ll be working out the kinks over the next short while and moving between the old and new themes until all is running smoothly. But this preview is just a glimpse of the upcoming new and improved All About Race. I apologize in advance for any technical difficulties that may arise, but please let me know right away about anything that comes up while you’re clicking around.
This period in which many …

So my very wise blogamigo Eddie Griffin suggested that I take TWO mental health days. He’s right of course, I am almost feeling clear and inspired again. I pay close attention when my higher energies, like optimism, dip and lower level energies, like frustration, surge. Sometimes the best way for me to re-balance is to take a break from writing for a day or two, breathe deeply, workout and read.
Big post for tomorrow, but in the meantime I am reading all over the interwebs and ask that you do the …

Today we kick off an experiment that I am very excited about! I know that those of you who comment on this site are the reason a sense of community exists here. Sometimes we agree and sometimes we don’t. We don’t have to agree. But those of you who are sincerely trying to listen and to move through pain, anger and fear to a clearer place, inspire me to keep working internally for greater clarity and understanding in my own journey.
So on Saturday’s I will provide a place for YOU, …

During my appearance on the Bloggers’ Panel at Tavis Smiley’s State of the Black Union on Saturday, I asked the audience to go home or to the library, get on the web and begin to become familiar with the internet. If the first steps are to type in www.google.com and put a question in the box, then that is a great start. But immediately following our panel, I was approached by dozens of people who were intrigued by the idea of blogging and wanted to understand the ‘how to’s’. I …
