People of Primary Colors (POPC) have launched a media attack against plain old POC (people of color) stating that the term ‘POC’ rightfully belongs only to the purples, the reds, the azures, the neon yellows and the greens. The People of Primary Colors assert that everybody else is simply a shade on one very broad spectrum.
“Whine, whine, whine. That’s all THEY do,” said Violet in an oft heard refrain, “You wanna know hard? MY life is hard. Try walkin’ around the color of Prince’s favorite satin bedsheets. Yeah, I’m mixed …

Political cartoonists inhabit sacred space in a free democracy. Political cartoonists must be free to express themselves without a filter or none of us are. But that carte blanche does not trump my rights, as a reader, to voice my opinion of the perspective that’s presented. I felt the now infamous New Yorker cover was misguided and I think Sean Delonas’ cartoon in today’s edition of the New York Post fails to do anything more than make light of a tragic incident, ignore the history of the NYPD’s involvement in …

I find THE cover appalling.

But, frankly, I can’t get around the pitch. Did it go like this?:
Barry Blitt, cover artist: “I have this great idea for a cover promoting that 18 page intricately detailed piece chronicling Obama’s extraordinary political skill and savvy.”
David Remnick, ‘New Yorker’ Editor: “Great! Shoot.”
Blitt: “Okay, picture the Oval Office, but instead of George Washington’s portrait above the mantel, we’ve got Osama Bin Laden’s.”
Remnick: “UmmHmmm. I’m with you, keep going.”
Blitt: “Well, next, we’ve got a fire going in the fireplace and guess what’s cookin’? The American …

These images are viscerally offensive. But they were not created by those you would expect. The second photo appeared on the cover of a Georgia newspaper. The first illustration was created by a liberal, white blogger at Daily Kos named ONECITIZEN – trying to make a point. This is unsettling because I expect violent, angry, white racists to always fantasize about raping, torturing and possessing strong, black women. They will always twist their craving for sexual dominance into some kind of hollow-piped rhetoric trumpeting racial purity and white superiority. …

I imagine this place, All About Race.com, to be a spot where we can open our hearts and speak our minds to each other in ways that would be downright impossible in the whir of day-to-day life.
So I am asking for you input, in all sincerity:

What were they thinking?
I don’t understand it.
Seriously. If you find Golfweek Magazine’s choice to feature a noose on its cover, with the verbage ‘Caught in a noose Tilghman slips up and the Golf Channel can’t wriggle free,’ anything less than a big “F-CK …

Dumbfounded? So was I when I first saw this. My next clear thought was that the late Walt Disney, a reported Nazi sympathizer, is probably doing a little jig somewhere having a good belly laugh.

Lead paint isn’t the only element that can make our children’s playthings harmful or destructive. Teaching young people that a tool of violence, and in this country racial violence, is something to be worn as a talisman of power goes beyond the pale.

“Mestizo” was one of the first words I learned when I started studying Spanish in 7th grade at Argyle Junior High School. In this case, it was used to describe Mexicans who were the descendants of African slaves. I don’t remember how it came up, but I know that this was during the time of “Roots” and I bet my progressive, blonde, blue eyed teacher from Spain, Mrs. Malitz, wanted to inject some relevance into the inane dialogues we were required to commit to memory and recite.

The Riverdale Assembly of God took down their site and sent anonymous self-righteous comments to the blog of Tate Hill; the man who first posted photographic proof of their ignorant and racist school celebration. Supporters of The Riverdale Assembly of God claim they actually believe that boys wearing blackface make-up and dressing in mammy costumes is a fitting tribute to Emancipation. My question is this, does the RAG really think we are that stupid or are they just that out of touch with history and contemporary reality?
